These guys had a big NAS disk system which they were upgrading and we had to migrate all the data off of it in order to replace it. Where to put it? How about a giant firewire array? This is how they ran in production for about a week. Note the classy cooling system. Even better is the fact that it wasn't really a RAID configuration, just a concatenation of disks... so if any one of them had gone down or come unplugged the whole data set would have been wrecked. Sweet. |

Submitted by Netlord80 (not verified) on Wed, 12/31/2008 - 15:16.I worked in a place where I was taking over for some of the biggest idiots that I had ever seen working in IT. The primary file server also had no RAID, a flakey SCSI controller (lost 50% of the drives at random intervals requiring constant reboots), and a fan just like that one as a cooling system to keep it from overheating. To make matters worse, they had RAS and a live modem attached to the PDC (NT4). And guess what the (Main) Domain name was at that time... "workgroup".
It took me 3 years to clean up the mess those guys had left behind.
I know that too well.

This is what we had to do to
