It's hilarious what some of these 'executives' do to earn their paychecks. Two years ago we had a massive restructure designed to save 'costs' and 'move forward and improve swervices', my group were already running lean and mean and were loved by the staff we were supporting, but other geniuses had better ideas, and didn't want to leant about how we did things... So basically all these tech guys got rounded up and put into 'dumbed down' jobs, based on a 'skills audit'. Those with 'better skills' - 'the balls to take on the job for the short term they were there, get a massive pay rise for it and ultimately stuff the whole thing up and then get a more high paid job elsewhere' - snaffled the positions. In fact what they basically did was employ MORE MANAGERS that really did NOTHING hands-on, most had F.A technical knowledge, and guess what happened very quickly? Well the IT Department subsequently went something like 3 million dollars in the red. So much for 'cost cutting' and improving efficiencies. Most of the more talented IT nerds left or became despondent, and guys came in on contracts and were expected to fix everything with no idea what was going. So they left too. So it was left to the manager to ply their 'expert' skill, most of which didn't even know how to configure their expensive laptops, let alone PDA's... Anyway it took little over 15 months before the whole expensive layer of 'management' were shown the door. The 3 million dollar deficit seems to have diminished somewhat. And the systems seem to be working better for some strange reason too.... |

Gotta Love It
Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 07/26/2009 - 01:08.It never fails to amaze me. You have an IT department that is taxing its given resources to the max. Like running 5900 RPM's on a well tuned engine that red lines at 6000 RPM's, yet still purrs. Then for some reason, because their name tag says boss, they think they can reinvent physics. Put water in the oil, run it a 7000 RPM's and then cant believe it when it blows up. Surely it must be some one else's fault.
Stand back every one...! It's my turn to drive.. .....
sounds like every large

chain of command
Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 07/12/2009 - 14:43.I used to work at a company (that shall remain nameless) that after a restructure put 5 people in the hierarchy above me. That is, five rows of management above me (when viewed as a tree - boss's boss's boss type thing), not simply five people total.
LOL
